Sailing holidays in Greece are rarely related with Macedonia and Thrace as it seems that they are seldom visited by yachts. The climate is more extreme, with winter frosts (prepare your boat if laying up!) more humid summers, and less predictable winds than the other areas.However, you can book  a sailboat either in Kavala or anywhere else in Northern Greece as the marinas are fully equipped and offer excellent services to the sailors.

Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece, is a lively city with a better gastronomical experience compared with the rest of Greece. The port itself is very messy, but there’s a busy, full service marina at Aretsou with a yacht club  in a short distance towards the town.

Chalkidiki to the east has some very famous  beaches with a lot of green around its two western peninsulae. 

• Kassandra. Facing west is the famous (and well secluded) Marina Sani, part of a smart resort. 

• Sithonia. Nikiti village, at the NW end, offers a small harbour. There’s usually more room at Neos Marmaros 12nm further SE.In the gulf between Sithonia and Akti, there are many choices for exploring but very few yacht shelters.

Kavala is another famous port city. Charter a sailing yacht in Kavala  and At Nea Paramos, SW of Kavala town, there’s a good  dock suitable for leaving a boat for winter. From here you can depart for Thasos and rent a sailboat in the island.

Porto Lagos has excellent marina in the SW corner , there  is  a port that offers a range of engineering services, a yard for leaving during winter.

Bareboat sailing in north Aegean sea is another unforgettable magnificent experience.
