The Argolic Gulf is bordered by two mountainous sections, except at the head of the gulf where the mountains give way. The broad valley visible below is the Argolida which is the fabled Argolid plain where Homer and others of ancient times sang the praises of its beauty. The shore is fairly desolate and drops off vertical into the sea, where there are many anchorages near the shoreline.

The Saronic Gulf is very close to Athens which is the key yacht charter area in Greece especially for luxury motor yachts or sailing holidays. It is a beautiful location with a rich ancient history.
