Amorgos is known as the island of the “Deep Blue”, located at the Southeast edge of the Cyclades, oblong with rapid mountainous morphology. Two natural ports are featured at the area, the Katapola at its center and Aigiali at the North part. The island, having been inhabited since the prehistoric times, is distinguished for its archeological richness and well known architectural art. One majestic, actually considered as the most important sight that can only be seen from the sea is the monastery of Panagia of Hozoviotissa, which was founded by the Byzantine Emperor Alexios Komninos in 1088.
